Destination

The trip most people come to Rwanda for, arranged so the only thing you have to think about is the walk.

How it runs

Day one we drive you north from Kigali to Musanze — about two and a half hours on the RN4 — and settle you into a lodge near Kinigi. Day two starts early: the park briefing is at 7am, families are allocated, and the trek can be forty minutes or four hours depending on where the gorillas moved overnight. You spend one hour with the family. Day three is flexible — golden monkeys, the twin lakes at Burera and Ruhondo, or a slow drive back to Kigali with a stop at a coffee washing station.

What we handle

The permit is bought the same day your deposit lands, the lodge is booked at the operator rate, and your driver-guide knows the trailhead roads in the wet season. If you would rather self-drive, we hand over a Prado with a full tank and directions to Kinigi.

The vehicle

This trip runs in the Land Cruiser Prado.

The Prado is the vehicle most of our clients end up in: air-conditioned comfort for the long tarmac stretches between Kigali and the parks, and enough clearance and traction to shrug off murram and mud once you leave the main roads. Diesel economy, a roof rack for luggage, and a ride that keeps everyone fresh at the trailhead. We run TXL and VX-R variants.

Good to know

Good to know before you book a trip

Can you arrange permits and lodges too?

Yes. We book gorilla and chimp permits, park fees and lodges at the operator rate, so the car, the permit and the room arrive as one written quote.

How do I pay, and how much to reserve?

30% holds the vehicle and lets us buy permits the same day. Pay by card, mobile money or bank transfer. No payment is taken online through the site.

Can I take a self-drive car into the national parks?

Volcanoes, Nyungwe and Lake Kivu are fine for self-drive in any of our 4x4s. For Akagera game drives we provide our own safari Land Cruiser with a driver-guide, which is what the park tracks and the sightings deserve — ask us before planning a self-drive game drive.

Are permits and park fees included in tour prices?

Tour prices are per person and include the permit or park fee, the vehicle with a driver-guide and the nights shown. Meals, tips and international flights are not included. We list every line on the written quote.

More trips

Pair it with another park.

The same car and driver-guide carry you across the whole route — most itineraries combine two parks with a night on Lake Kivu between.
